TSMC will begin production of these chips in accordance with the 7-nanometer process technology by the end of 2018 or early 2019. However, high-tech connoisseurs have already heard about this. Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980
The Snapdragon 855 (code name “Hana”) number was the SDM855, but to its debut it could be different – SM8150. The new approach is probably intended to better distinguish chipsets intended for smartphones and laptops.
It is expected that the Snapdragon SM8150 chipset will be equipped with a special computational chip for artificial intelligence tasks. In this it will be similar to the already known Kirin 970 from Huawei, which was introduced last year and became the first mobile chipset for Android-devices with a special Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Huawei can introduce its new flagship chipset Kirin 980 to IFA 2018.
It should be noted that a number of current models of Qualcomm chipsets (and we are talking not only about the flagship version, but also about a number of medium-class hardware platforms) already support the functions of artificial intelligence, but do not have a computational chip specially designed for these tasks.
It is reported that Qualcomm will give a different name to the chipset with the ARM-processor for laptops, codenamed “Poipu”. It will no longer be SDM1000, but SCX8180. The network also reports on the hardware platforms SM7150 and SM7250. It can be about Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 710, the latest “10-nanometer” chipsets of the middle class from Qualcomm.
